Novelty on the market: Caravan/motorhome + pop-up roof

From the Sassenberg ideas factory

T.E.C. can now add a pop-up roof, until now seen only on camper vans, to any caravan and almost any motorhome as desired. In this way, even a short layout can sleep four people. The first prototype can be seen at the CMT holiday exhibition in Stuttgart. This is a compact van, the AdvanTEC 544 G, which has a total length of 5.99 metres and offers four full sleeping berths.

While last season was dominated by the new folding bed semi-integrated models, the pop-up roof may well start a new trend in the industry. Both variants make available an additional two full sleeping berths, even with short layouts. But is the folding bed really the optimal solutions for everyone? A folded down bed can seriously hinder use of the living area. The seating areas can never be used when the bed is down, and access to the driver’s cab is blocked. And in any case, what form could a solution for caravans take?

The Sassenberg construction team has therefore been keen to find another approach. The pop-up roof offers many advantages: if two extra sleeping berths are required, underneath the interior space remains fully usable. The room height is unaffected and the wardrobes above the seating area can use the full space and are not limited by the folding bed mechanism. Above, a cozy playroom is available around the clock. With a sleeping area of approx. 140 x 200 cm, the extra space in the roof is suitable for two adults to sleep. The roof is accessed using a two-part ladder which can be conveniently stored in the wardrobe.
If the two extra sleeping berths are not required, the pop-up roof can simply be kept down. The pop-up roof’s skylight is then positioned precisely over the access opening, so that the living area continues to receive light from above as before. The roof of the vehicle is also now insulated and fully sealed, meaning it is just as ready for winter as a normal vehicle. The roof construction then adds just 24 cm to the external height.
Attention has been paid to comfort, too: under the pop-up roof is a comfortable mattress with a mattress support. This is heated by air from below, meaning that the sleeping area is always pleasantly warm.

Whoever has joined you on holiday, the “Raised˛” is flexible and offers a quality solution in every regard. Whether for grandparents or parents with or without children and grandchildren, the “Raised˛” vehicles are true multi-generational vehicles. As the construction is independent of layout, almost any desired layout feature can be provided, whether for caravan or motorhome, rear double bed, single beds or queen-sized bed. For winter camping the folding bed version continues to have its advantages. But for many other types of holiday and family constellations, the “Raised˛” is a real solution with many practical benefits. It is of interest above all for caravans and semi-integrated motorhomes. For fully-integrated vehicles too it can offer an alternative to the folding bed above the cab. This space can then be used fully for storage, which makes the seating area look much better. The popup roofs are not offered for alcove vehicles or the RoTEC Lift folding bed series.
The extra weight with this option is approx. 110 kg. Depending on layout, some features may no longer be possible, such as a sun roof, air conditioning or a satellite system. The price of the pop-up roof is Euro 3,450 in Germany. For prices in other countries the T.E.C.-dealer in each can give information.
